Case Studies
Health, Safety and Environmental Auditing
Shared Safety and Risk have been involved with TransGrid, the operator and manager of the main high voltage transmission network in NSW and the ACT since 2012. In addition to various consulting projects we have been on TransGrid’s audit panel since 2014 and hence our consultants have obtained training in power system safety rules and electrical substation safety.
The audit program has seen Shared Safety and Risk consultants undertake construction contractor, mobile plant, vegetation contractor, fatigue management, chain of responsibility and internal business unit HSE audits.
A key aspect of many of these audits involves the review of high risk work, particularly remote and isolated work, chain of responsibility and use of mobile plant.
Management System Redesign
Shared Safety and Risk have assisted Roads and Maritime Services and Transport for NSW to completely redesign their entire WHS system framework, policies and procedures to meet legal and ISO45001 compliance in addition to practical operational requirements and risks.
This project involved three Shared Safety and Risk consultants undertaking considerable discovery phase efforts involving intensive consultation with key stakeholders to identify the real needs of the various workplaces and operations in this diverse organisation. The design of the new system involved simplification to nine overarching WHS standards and eighteen risk and operation-specific company-wide procedures. Assistance with system operationalisation planning and communication workshops was undertaken to assist the business with future consultation and roll out of developed systems as the move to the Transport for NSW umbrella occurs over 2019/2020.
Workplace Design
Shared Safety and Risk recently undertook an ergonomic and workplace design assessment for one of Sydney’s recently merged Councils. With an increase of staff in a small office area, we incorporated various Standard and Code requirements with a practical review of the workspace and tasks to recommend simple yet necessary workplace design changes with the goal to improve the health, safety and welfare of all those working in the environment.
WHS System Design
We were thrilled to help the talented and committed folks at the Childrens Cancer Institute to develop a practical and risk-focussed health and safety management system. So that the workforce can stay focussed on their commitment to zero childhood cancers, Shared Safety and Risk developed simple but robust system requirements and tools integrated as much as possible with the Institute’s current work practices.
Mental Health Awareness Training
Shared Safety and Risk have facilitated a number of training session for various clients with the goal of leaders gaining more knowledge and experience in how to identify and manage psychological risks in the workplace. Using various tools, participants are able to focus on their non-physical risks and establish action plans to take back to their organisations.
WHS Due Diligence Reviews
Shared Safety and Risk have conducted a number of high level organisational health and safety reviews under privilege for a number of law firms and their clients. The goal of these reviews is to cast a broad set of eyes over an organisation’s health and safety arrangements to evaluate whether the system design befits the risk profile, the system is implemented effectively and that workers are engaged with the processes. This forms an essential assurance piece for Officers to verify the arrangements in place enable them the and organisation to meet their legal due diligence requirements.
